Spring Piano Evaluations

Evaluation Dates:

Saturday, April 5, 1:00 - 6:00 PM
Sunday, April 6, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

WCMS Piano Evaluations are a springtime performance opportunity for dedicated students of WCMS faculty. They are designed to encourage growth and artistic expression for students of all ages. Evaluations are open to students of WCMS teachers, and your private teacher must recommend participation.
How do they work?
Students prepare a program to perform for a panel of two adjudicators and receive detailed, constructive written feedback. Each student's teacher determines the repertoire and scale

String Department Workshop: Fiddling with Molly Tucker

Are you a string player who is curious about the art of fiddling? Whether you're brand new to fiddling or have explored this art form before, this workshop is for you! In this 90-minute session, WCMS teaching artist Molly Tucker will lead participants through learning a fiddle tune and exploring what styling can make your playing sound like fiddle playing. The group will also explore chordal and rhythmic ideas to bring the tune to life in their own way.
This workshop is open to all intermediate-to-advanced string players. Participants should be able to play two-octave G and A Major scales

Workshop: Pranayama (Yogic Breath) for Musicians

For ages 11 and up.
The power of our breath goes beyond simply keeping us alive - it can allow us to synchronize with the external world around us, and internally it can re-regulate our nervous systems before auditions/performances. It can also be used to regulate our temperature and to create different mental states such as excited or calm. If you are a singer or wind-player, you're already using your breath to fuel your instrument, and this workshop could help deepen your understanding of the mechanics of breathing as well as try some techniques that you might use in other areas of life.

Workshop: Taking Guitar Solos Over Chord Progressions

For ages 11 through adult.
The goal of this workshop is to provide a basic understanding of how to think about playing guitar solos over your favorite songs. In this hands on workshop we will go over basic theory and develop great visualization tools for learning how to traverse the fret board.
Bring your guitar!
