Seeing the Moment, Documentary Photography Weekend with Shealah Craighead.

© Shealah CraigheadThe Griffin Museum is pleased to offer a two-day, weekend workshop, with internationally acclaimed, presidential photographer, Shealah Craighead. The art of documentary photography has many layers, and focusing on honest expressions, and moments is critical for creating relevant work. This weekend workshop is designed to help you shoot, edit, and understand the nuances of creating strong documentary images. This workshop will help documentary photographers and photojournalists to better see and capture the world around them using several different approaches. It will help photographers to understand the need to be constantly analyzing the scene in front of them, how to watch for moments to unfold, and be aware of how the background can also play a role in their story. They will learn how to act quickly and make decisions on the fly in order to get the shot. The weekend will kick off with a meet and greet with Ms. Craighead at the Griffin Museum on Friday evening, October 25th, at 7pm. It will be followed by a brief artist talk around the artist's work, from 8pm-9pm. Saturday, October 26th, the class will meet at 10am for an off-site shoot, and then back to the classroom for editing and sequencing of your images. Sunday, October 27, students will present their work for critique, and there will be a lecture discussing techniques for creating a compelling documentary series.
