DESCRIPTION
Organization description
About the organization: activities, who you serve, who belongs, brief history.
Note: Describe mission, services and volunteer opportunities in the other boxes below.

We believe that recreation is a core element of community vibrancy and is essential to the well-being of individuals. In order to fully achieve that status, the quality of recreation facilities is of paramount importance. When you support the Friends of Winchester Recreation, you help ensure the continuation of quality recreational programming, facilities, and equipment in our community.

Mission
What is the purpose of your organization? Why do you exist? Why should people join or support you?

Our mission is to support the growth and continuing operation of Recreational opportunities in Winchester for ALL residents.

Programs or Services offered
What the organization offers to the community: programs, activities, skills, areas of interest, etc. Could be a simple description, a bulleted list with links, or something else.

The Friends formerly supported the operation of a Winchester Youth Center, which was located at McCall Middle School until its most recent expansion in 2017. We continue a strong partnership with Kid Connection preschool and have provided many grants to other local entities, including over $80k in the prior fiscal year.

There are a multitude of priorities for raising the level of Winchester’s Recreation facilities to best in class. First, our sights are set on continuing the restoration of existing spaces. Second, we envision reclaiming a community “third space” for teens, an element that is included in the town master plan, accepted by the planning board in 2020.
