On August 24, School of HONK comes Winchester for a meet-up and parade where friends and neighbors learn to play lively, spontaneous music together! This visit is an opportunity for everyone in town to join by playing an instrument, dancing, or just joining the parade. All levels of ability are welcome, even those who have never played before.
School of HONK is a radically inclusive brass band and all ages music school, powered by volunteer mentor musicians and popular dance tunes from around the world. They take their moves and grooves to the streets almost every Sunday afternoon, usually in Somerville or Cambridge — to have fun, embolden our neighbors, and help band our community together.
The schedule on August 24 is:
- At 2:30, come to the Griffin Terrace to meet, warm up, and learn the tunes
- At 4:00, the party marches down Sghore Road to Winchester Common for a performance on the Green
- The event ends at 5:00
Come and enjoy the party! Bring your instrument or your dancing shoes—or just come to the Common to hear some joyful honking. It's an experience you won't forget.
School of Honk was featured in a recent WBUR broadcast story and is profiled in an online video.
